First stay at La Taos
The 15/01/2017

We normally stay at the Village Montana Hotel on a Half board rate but this trip we decided we wanted the flexibility of an apartment and decided to give La Taos a try. We were definitely not disappointed. Everything from the pre-visit emails to discuss resort car parking through to booking restaurants for us during our stay was handled very professionally and nothing was ever too much trouble. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We will definitely visit again. We travelled as a family of 3 (2 adults and a teenager) and stayed in apartment A30 on level -3 (2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms). It was very spacious, quiet and well appointed with fantastic views over La Lavachet. The kitchen area is very compact but more than adequate for preparing breakfast or a small snack. Lack of a conventional oven and only 2 hob rings would make it difficult to prepare a full meal particularly if the apartment was fully occupied (5 people!). The central wall cupboard makes using the kitchen tricky for anyone over 5'9" as you keep catching your head on it. Very annoying! A complimentary supply of dishwasher tablets and cleaning materials was a very welcome surprise and not something we have experienced in other resorts. The bedrooms were both beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Oddly though....the master bedroom lacked sufficient hanging/wardrobe space for two people but plenty of shelving, whilst the triple bedroom only had one cupboard with lots of hanging but limited shelving and no drawers! The modern bathrooms were very well appointed and complimentary bathrobes and toiletries were a lovely touch. The only problem was the overhead lighting, particularly above the sinks, which wasn't the best. The living/seating area was very comfortable and the furnishings luxurious. The TV with access to both BBC and ITV channels proved very useful for an injured skier who was room bound for a couple of days. Access to high speed broadband also meant she could stream movies and music to her PC or iPad. The spa facilities were immaculate and although the spa was somewhat small, it was very functional and clean. The massage treatments are worth a special mention. We never ate in the restaurant as the menu seemed quite limited and a bit expensive but with a great selection of restaurants all within a few minutes walk this wasn't a problem. The ski-in, ski-out location of the hotel is a huge plus, along with heated ski lockers and boot racks. Similar to a lot of the other reviewers we were surprised to receive a note on the door of our apartment the day before check out warning us that we would be charged €200 if we did not clean the apartment before checking out! This isn't something I have ever experienced before when renting ski apartments as normally an end of stay clean us included in the charges. The lack of any cleaning equipment other than the complimentary dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and dishcloths also made this a little tricky to achieve. I decided that the best I could do was leave the surfaces clean and all the crockery and cutlery washed (the dishwasher cycle hadn't finished by the time we had to leave!). I now wait to see if €200 has been deducted from my security charge!

A delightful apartment
The 03/01/2017

A wonderful holiday. Great (well trained staff), a delightful apartment, fabulous location (truly ski in ski out with a range of directions to ski in). My son said it is the nicest place we have ever stayed.

Un séjour inoubliable
The 02/01/2017

Le Taos is a very good hotel
The 31/12/2016

Le Taos is a very good hotel perfectly placed for access to the skiing area. You can actually ski right to the hotel. There is an indoor pool, with sauna and steam room which we used every day after skiing. The hotel has been open for only 1 year and is very well appointed. We had a 2 room appartment which was clean, quiet, and refreshingly modern. The only real negative was the hotel restaurant, which was expensive and poor quality food, but there are many nice restaurants within easy walking distance so this was not a problem for us.

Hôtel récent, joliment décoré
The 26/12/2016

I stayed at Le Taos
The 16/12/2016

I stayed at Le Taos at the start of December 2016 as part of a very large group that took over the whole hotel pretty much. Le Taos does not have rooms as such, rather it has suites accommodating from 2 to 7 guests each. Each suite has a small kitchen area etc. Plus a big TV and sofa, chairs etc. The hotel is modern, stylish and well designed, and you get what they say you get on their website. It's ski-in and ski-out, and has a pool, sauna, steam room etc. Plus a restaurant and bar etc. And it has a WiFi router in each suite with fast WiFi! Essential in this day-and-age. Points to be aware of: I was in a suite with 3 double/twin bedrooms. The lounge was large, and the kitchen small but functional. The en-suite shower-toilet was fine, and there was always hot water. But there was just sliding doors to the lounge from my room, and they did not seal at all. So light, smells and noise came in from the lounge/kitchen. Plus, my room had no windows, and just a poor, small ventilation duct. At night, the room got very hot and stuffy, despite me turning all the heating off. There were many rooms like this in the hotel. The hotel is true ski-in & ski-out, right from the ski/boot room area. But it would REALLY help if the hotel produced a detailed map of exactly how to get back to the hotel, as it can be approached a number of ways. From one side of Tignes, the only way back down (unless you take a lift) is by a very tricky black run. The pool, steam room and sauna are not totally tiny, but they are not large. If you go during school holidays, I would imagine the area will be packed with screaming kids. Whilst the hotel is nicely designed, it's not really a true "designer" hotel. Rather it's jumping on the "designer" hotel bandwagon, and is a corporate view of what a designer hotel should look like, and it's done on a budget. And small details are missing — there is no light above the bathroom mirrors and no tissues. You also have to empty the rubbish yourself from the kitchen, and clean the suite at the end of your stay. Plus the staff are fine and helpful, but they do not have that slick high-quality hotel vibe. But the pricing is not bad, especially if there are 6 of you say in a suite. Take a look around at different hotels & apartments and see what you think. Conclusion: I can't think that you will be disappointed staying here, especially if you are a group of youngish folks that like the idea of sharing an apartment.

The 03/10/2016
